  • L3C Legislation The L3C is a new form of limited liability company which combines the best features of a for-profit LLC with the socially beneficial aspects of a nonprofit. It is the for-profit with a nonprofit soul. The first bill to make the L3C into law passed the Vermont Legislature on April 15, 2008 and was signed by the Governor of Vermont on April 30, 2008. Effective beginning May 1, 2008, foundations and other investors nationwide may now form their own L3C. While the action permits investors nationwide to register an L3C under rules, other states are considering L3C legislation. For more information about the L3C, including a legislative watch, visit American's for Community Develpment.

  • Social Innovation Fund
Included in The Serve America Act is authorization for the creation of a Social Innovation Fund. The Fund is intended to increase the impact of social entrepreneurs and innovative nonprofit organizations by scaling proven programs and investing in promising new ideas.
